KS07 - Kurt Schwitters in England Festival September 23 - 30th, Ambleside and Elterwater
First International Kurt Schwitters Autumn School


Conference, exhibitions, performances and a MERZ FM community radio station
devoted to new research and artists' projects about Kurt Schwitters in England

Provisional programme:

MERZ FRONT Programme of exhibitions, poetry readings, films and performances of Schwitters' work, including new works and interpretations by contemporary artists, at various Ambleside venues; in pubs, shops, the local Cinema, bus station and village hall venues. 24 - 30 September.

MERZ KABARET Concert by international and regional musicians, poets and performers; Saturday 29 September.

MERZ BARN Exhibition about the Merz Barn and its history, and open weekend at Cylinders Estate, Elterwater 24 - 30 September.

MERZ SCHRIFT International conference focused on the writing, texts, poetry and performances of Kurt Schwitters; 28-30 September. At venues in Ambleside and Chapel Stile. Guest speakers/artists; Prof. Jerome Rothenberg, UC San Diego, Dr Dorothea Dietrich, Corcoran Washington, Dr Sarah Wilson, Courtauld Institute of Art, Dr Götz-Lothar Darsow (Hannover), Tom Paulin, Roger Cardinal, Christopher Fox, Florian Kaplick, and others tbc.

MERZ FM - Ambleside Community Radio. One week RSL community radio project (23 - 29 September) and broadcast programme of poems, audio arts projects and readings of works by Schwitters. Rethinking the URSONATE; discussion of new research and performances on air interpreting Schwitters' Ursonate, by invited international scholars, composers, singers and performance artists. Alongside other programmes of songs, plays, poetry and verse by regional artists, poets, folk singers, schools and community groups.
