Kurt Schwitters and the South Lakes Merz Barn project were recently the focus of a major exhibition at the Royal academyin London. Following on from this, Dr Penelope Curtis, Director of Tate Britain has recenty announced that the Tate will be devoting a major survey exhibition about Kurt Schwitters in England for eraly 2013. Why is there now an upsurge of international and national interest in Kurt Schwitters and, in particular, about his time in Ambleside and the Merz Barn project in Langdale? The exhibition and film evening may help to explain why.
