Make sure your experiences are not lost: describe what actually happened in your own words and pictures, and send it in - For the Record

What is For the Record?

For the Record gives farming people and rural communities a voice - and an opportunity to create a first-hand record of the foot-and-mouth crisis, as it is being experienced by those most involved.

The archive will be built up from the collected records of people from affected areas all over Britain, and will preserve their personal experiences for future generations to learn from.

Support available:

  • If you would like to talk about your project in more detail
    please call the free helpline:

    0800 328 1700

  • If you would like to collaborate with an artist, photographer or writer in making your records we may be able to help - please let us know.

  • Although we may not be able to help everybody, we have a small fund to help farming people with the costs of buying films and processing, video tapes, cassettes, etc.

What kind of records can be sent in?

You can send in anything you like, in any format that can safely be delivered by letter, parcel post, or e-mail. Or call us with your messages, or if you have any questions or want advice about the project.
